Role:
The Underwriting Manager will lead and support a team of underwriting staff. This involves collaborating, coaching, directing and providing tools groups and individuals within the team while monitoring their performance. The goal is to ensure that underwriting and service standards are upheld while providing a clear and concise message to the team. These messages should be open and clear with underwriting, operations, accounting, claims, strategic partners and brokers.

Primary Responsibilities: (consists of but not limited to)

Monitor activities across underwriting while providing support collaboration and cross-functional learning

Oversee Underwriting Department to ensure underwriting discipline is maintained in line with company and program underwriting guidelines to achieve profitability and protect insurer and broker relationships

Provide an efficient and clear message to management and externally to brokers, providing them product information when requested.

Communicate prospective risk issues or concerns and non-compliance with “best practices” approach to the management team.

Ensure staff have training and tools necessary to service brokers and customers.

Ensure that all workflows, procedures, guidelines and departmental standards are being adhered too.

Manage scheduling and workflow within the underwriting team.

Initiating and implementing process recommendations to increase efficiency and overall productivity of program lines.

Relationship development and onboarding of contracted brokerages.

Assist with new program line product launches, coordinating with Business Development and Operations.

Assist with quoting new business and issuance of policy documents including endorsements.
Key Competencies:
-
Ability to commute to the office located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada (hybrid set-up)

10+ years of insurance underwriting, risk management or brokerage experience

Commercial Automobile/Fleet experience essential

Motor Truck Cargo, Commercial Property, Personal Lines, or Specialty Lines experience, an asset

CIP or FCIP accredited

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong work ethic, goal oriented

Advanced level of comfort with technology, including all MS Office products
